Process Paper

For national history day, the topic I chose was Cape Verde. I chose this as my topic because my ancestors are from Cape Verde, and I am interested in learning more about it. The theme for national history day is conflict and compromise. At first, I did not know the conflict or compromise, which made me question whether I should do Cape Verde as my project or not, so I researched. In conclusion, I learned more about the conflict and compromise and chose Cape Verde as my topic.

To present my project for national history day, I am presenting it through a website. I want to present the information this way because I have an interest graphic design. Also, I created a website for a poverty project in seventh grade and got a good grade. By creating a website, I can include pictures, and information together, without wasting money on a poster board, ink or paper. For this project, and the previous one in seventh grade, I used a website creator called Wix to create them.

Almost all of the information I used came from research. The websites I used were properly cited using Easy Bib and put in alphabetical order in a bibliography. The pictures I plan to use on my project’s website were not included in my bibliography and were not cited. All the websites I used to gain knowledge about my topic were given credit and were included in my bibliography. Websites like capeverde.com and britannica.com were included.

This year’s national history day theme is conflict and compromise. My topic of Cape Verde connects to this theme because, in history, Cape Verde has suffered a conflict and solved it with a compromise. The conflict was the slave trade that was happening there, and how the Portuguese were enslaving them. At one point, the ratio of enslaved people to free people was 14,000 to 2,000. Simplified, for every 7 slaves, there was 1 free person. The compromise was Cape Verde gaining their independence from Portugal, and becoming independent. Now, there are no Cape Verdeans enslaved in Cape Verde.
