Context

Cape Verde was land colonized by Portugal, and as well as most of the other colonized countries, they wanted independence. They mostly wanted independence because Cape Verde was used in the slave trade. The slave trade had gone on around Cape Verde since it was founded. Around 1580, for every 14,000 slaves, there were only 2,000 free people. Cape Verde partnered with Guinea-Bissau in the PAIGC (African party for the independence of Guinea and the Cape Verdes) to gain independence from Portugal. After many complications, deaths, and success, Cape Verde declared its independence from Portugal on July 5, 1975. And after they declared their independence, they were no longer a Portuguese colony, after being a colony for 480 years since 1495.  Now, Cape Verde and Portugal are successful by themselves.
